Job Summary:
We are expanding our programs and services and invite motivated, confident, and client-focused individuals to join our team. The Support Worker will provide direct, family-focused support to parents and caregivers participating in Family Programs. Support is delivered in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and strengths-based manner to help families strengthen their parenting capacity, stabilize challenging situations, and create safe, nurturing environments for their children.
Reporting to the Manager of Family Programs, the Support Worker will provide support in areas such as parenting skills, home management, daily living, family visits, wellness, and access to community resources. The successful candidate will be adaptable, organized, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop positive relationships with families and work collaboratively with the family, Ministry of Social Services caseworker, and/or CFS counsellor to ensure case plans are developed, updated in a timely manner, and goals are achieved.
- Assist families to identify their strengths, stresses, skills, and areas of risk.
- Teach effective problem-solving, communication, and age-appropriate parenting skills.
- Provide guidance in essential household tasks, daily living skills, strengthening family bonds, and stabilizing crisis situations.
- Assist families in accessing early intervention services to support the healthy development of their children and the family.
- Empower families to develop a support system by connecting with formal and informal community resources relevant to their needs.
- Collaborate with professionals from other agencies to provide appropriate and comprehensive services to families.
- Maintain and submit files, documentation, and reports in accordance with outlined criteria.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in social sciences, human services, or a related field, and/or experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities (preferred).
- Understanding of person-centered planning approaches.
- Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide confidential, culturally sensitive, and respectful support services.
- Valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Query.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Use of personal vehicle with appropriate insurance (mileage compensation provided).
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
